Collin County Songwriters Association

Think globally, rock locally

The Collin County Songwriters are fading into oblivion.

It is time to do something to generate some interest,

and maybe stimulate some songwriting.

Is anyone interested in becoming our new leader?

Let’s have an election soon. Anyone?

Hi I'm a new member. Going to be visiting Frisco in December and moving to the area in spring or summer 2015. One thing we did with my group in Charlotte, NC was to start a cowriting night once a month. We randomly selected two or three names from a hat to be a cowriting team that night. We have had as many as six teams in one night. The idea is to spend an hour writing as much of a song as possible in an hour. Then present it to all the others and take comments. Then go off and finish it up for presentation and performance. Hundreds of songs came out of that exercise. I'd be very happy to help get that going if you'd like.

I would love to see more showcases / open mics at coffee shops, restaurants, etc... I'm really not sure what has happened to this group, I was so excited when I first joined & there seemed to be so many opportunities to network & get our names out there. We were even given money by the city of Frisco, which seemed like a great way to create events in the Frisco area. No one could seem to hammer down any time to meet with each other & discuss the organization, and I guess we just gave up. I do not feel like I would want to be a new leader of the group, but I do feel we should have a meeting & discuss what can be done with the group & what we want to come from it. I would really love to network, find new placed to perform, and get constructive opinions/help with songwriting.

Steve:  We now have a membership of almost 150 people, so there may indeed be an opportunity for some new leadership and new energy.  When we founded the organization we always said the leadership should turn over every so often--that's why we founders stepped down.  Thanks for getting the discussion going--now let's see who is interested.  In the meantime, the founders are going to come up with some constructive suggestions for the current and future leadership, and lend a hand where we can.
