Andy, I recommend the Zoom H4. It's a great device- I recorded my wife performing on the flute and the playback sounded like I was in the room. It has great mics and is quote a multi-purpose recorder. Used it on several occasions when Ryan and I ha…

Academics almost always lag behind what's happening in pop culture, and drag their feet purposely. I say, "to heck with them (cleaned up version)." This song doesn't work "more or less." It works completely. Keep having fun with the language, that's…

Frisco Arts Festival - All too brief, but completely fantastic

To Mike Schaefer, Steve South and tge Frisco Arts organization: thank you so much for the opportunity to play at your wonderful event. Great location, great weather, I felt rather accomplished with my gig. It went by so fast, I wish I could've stayed longer.

I do hope your turnout showed great numbers, because I hope the CCSA can help provide entertainment for this event again!

Lyrical Buzzwords

I recently finished a song called Guyliner. Inside of the lyrics I have contained recent buzzwords like the titular "Guyliner", "Manscara", "Manscaping", and "Metrosexuality". Now, I've read how certain scholars and certain schoolteachers have a problem with this sort of remixing of component words and generating slang from these new compound words.

The problem is that this completely dismisses the creativity and out of the box thinking that comes with the evolution of society, but then collect… Continue

The Things You Read On a Starbucks Cup!

From this morning's coffee cup from Starbucks: The Way I See It #7...

"What I look for in musicians is generosity. There is so much to learn from each other and about each other's culture. Great creativity begins with tolerance."

Rockin’ The Park ’09 commercial

My fourth outing in the world of local television commercial spots had me handling advertising our fourth CCSA Outdoor concert. This was my fourth TV ad for Rockin’ The Park (or RTP09, for short), and the biggest challenge of it was to do something we hadn’t seen in the commercial while having it ready in time to advertise it enough so that the buzz could spread.

Having just become a new Dad, that presented time management challenges as well. But artists must always draw from life and respect i… Continue

The John Mayer Methodology

My education in music began with my parents and late 70’s to late 80’s time frames of country music; it was what we listened to in my parents household as I grew up. As I grew to understand words, soon followed music and rhythm. Then somewhere alone the way, I got the damn fool idea I could write lyrics and music. While the songs were unspeakably trite by today’s standards, the work was pretty goods for a kid that young. Even if I do say so myself.
My attempts at being a songwriter reconvened in… Continue

Chris -

My band rehearses on Wed nights from 7 - 9. A question has been posed to me by my mates to see if you have interest in playing with us since we'd like to add keyboards to the mix. Additionally, I'd like to leverage some of your original music to see if our styles are compatible.

You tell me when's a good time to get together for writing. You're the new daddy so I'm sure time is critical.
